Preben Iwan, occupies a unique position as one of Europe’s finest producers within the classical music scene. His professional background as a French horn player, with leading positions in Copenhagen Philharmonic and The Danish National Symphony Orchestra, has given him a musical base that very few producers have.

Add to that a unique technical training as ‘Tonmeister’ for 10 years when employed as chief sound producer at The Danish Broadcasting Corporation, and you have a perfect classical producer.

Preben Iwan’s work has lead to numerous international awards and nominations, to him as well as the artists and labels he has been producing for.

From his shooting star premiere producing Puccini’s Turandot with Giuseppe Sinopoli as conductor, to his latest work with New York Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic with Alan Gilbert and Sakari Oramo, Preben Iwan has been surrounding his work with true passion, knowledge, and psychological insight, in order to let the music, and work of the artists, shine through the speakers.

Preben Iwan is based in Copenhagen Denmark, from where he runs his own successful production company, delivering productions to the labels such as Deutsche Grammophone, Decca, Virgin, EMI, CPO, Ondine, Onyx and Orchid, to say nothing about the successful Danish labels OUR Recordings, and Dacapo Records.

The list of international artists and collaborators includes New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Paul Hillier’s ‘Theatre of Voices, and numerous chamber orchestras from Lapland to Hong Kong.

Preben Iwan is often called for by international soloists such as recorder player, Michala Petri, violinist, Nikolaj Znaider, percussionist, Dame Evelyn Glennie, The Kronos Quartet, and London Sinfonietta. Recent work also includes collaboration with conductors such as John Storgårds, Thomas Dausgaard, Stephen Layton, Herbert Blomstedt, and Lan Shui.

Preben Iwan’s local engagement in Denmark includes a much-treasured collaboration with the local symphony orchestras – lately a complete Beethoven cycle with Copenhagen Phil and Lan Shui – Danish professional chamber orchestras and choirs, and a unique collaboration with leading Danish contemporary composers in order to promote their music through artistic convincing and authentic recordings.

Sound and sound engineering in it self has a fashion too, and Preben Iwan is a pioneer on the technical field. He has for years been producing on cutting edge, state of the art gear and in technical formats of the highest possible quality.
